BIRD Binational Industrial Research & Development Foundation BIRD was established in 1977 to stimulate
mutually profitable cooperation between US and Israeli high-tech companies.
With an income of some $14.5 million a year, about $8.5 million as interest
on an endowment of $110 million that was equally contributed by the two
governments, BIRD cost-shares 50:50 with each partner in US company - Israeli
company teams that seek to develop and to commercialize any innovative
(nondefense) technology based product or process.
BIRD’s vital contribution lies in
matching the marketing know-how, distribution networks and global leverage
of US corporations with the innovation and advanced manufacturing capabilities
of Israeli companies. For the US partners in our projects, BIRD can be
a critical shortcut to business success. The typical Israeli partners in
our projects range from dynamic young companies just emerging from their
start-up phase, to successful public companies with an international reputation.
BIRD offers Israeli companies an alternative to seeking funds from a venture
capital group, by helping to locate a strategic US marketing partner.
