Mode of Operation

There are two basic types of project

  1. An RTD project which generally requires a consortium and generates Intellectual Property. That is it innovates. Nearly three quarters of the resources are applied to this type of project. They are normally funded at 50% of the Total cost./LI>

  2. A support or Technology Transfer Project. These projects frequently do not require partners and may be funded at 100% of the additional costs. They can be used for a variety of non research activities which include stimulation of use of existing technology./LI>

Each Program has a predefined Workprogram which defines at individual Task level the type of project that is sought. This workprogram is prepared and revised by the Program Committee that consists of representatives of the participating countries.

On a periodic basis a Call for Proposals is issued covering specific topics. Interested parties or consortia then prepare and submit proposals to undertake the requested work. After an evaluation, the winning proposers are invited to enter into contract negotiations and when completed, the project work can start.

Because the Tasks in the Workprogram are generally so broad and generic, it is normally possible to find a task that fits nearly anything a company wishes to do in the high technology area.
